Saguaro

Image
These photos taken on my first trip to Saguaro National Park outside of Tuscon, Arizona. It's a small park, made even smaller by being split into two sections on either side of the city. On the recommendation of my boyfriend, who grew up in Tuscon, we went to the eastern section of the park. The winter sun washed everything out, blinding and benign when one can make an easy retreat to the climate controlled car. It's hard to imagine early settlers and lone cowboys crossing this terrain with the looming knowledge that the desert made their travels a life and death situation. Did they really follow manifest destiny out here, or is this just the history that Will Rodgers rewrote with the help of Hollywood? Anyway, here's some iconic, old-timey wild wild west photos for you. The city has been conveniently cropped out. Feel free to photoshop in some majestically rugged cowboys. P.S. Can you tell that I've really been into textures lately? Crunchy.

Make More Noise 61

Call me crazy, but I think emo is making a comeback. ALL HAIL THE SOUNDS OF MY SAD AND ALONE HIGH SCHOOL YEARS! Though I love to throw my dancing shoes on, cut a rug, and blissfully let go, I still kind of think you can't be happy all the time. It isn't realistic. That's why emo still pulls at my heart strings. Plus, there's so much potential there. There's so much creativity and raw force that can come out of being sad and alone. Don't you remember being an angsty teen, working on the lit mag and going to basement shows that got busted by the cops? I know I wasn't the only one! Even if you've happily moved on to the next stage in your life, it can still be nice to fondly reminisce. Thankfully there's a new generation of bands that have picked up the emo torch, so we can all cry together!
